The 10-day forecast is looking fine, but we are still several days out. Be sure to keep an umbrella in your car should the weather change.

FIELD NOTES
Did we say we are thankful for the storms last week? The rain came at a crucial time. We talk about reward vs the risk all of the time with the CSA and this was one of those times the "risk" was winning. Because of the extended heat and no precipitation we lost several settings of plants. So dry... desert-like conditions. The wind would literally carry the soil away. After hours, into the night, and many-many passes later, we irrigated the fields to just keep the green alive. We won some and lost some. Please know we try our hardest to produce for you each and every week, no matter what it takes. To us, failure is not an option.

We are hoping to have the new tent setup this week. We have been waiting for special ground anchors to secure the frame and at the time I am writing this they have arrived. Not only will it service all of the CSA members but all of our farm stand customers as well. We are super excited to begin the next chapter of Bardwell Farm!

Summer squash, cucumbers, and bell peppers are beginning to form, but again we need rain to push things along. Send a prayer or do a little rain dance folks, we're going to need it.

We are in the process of flipping beds in High Tunnel 1 to plant English cucumbers. With some luck we'll see them in 40 to 50 days. It's something new we are trying, should be a fun little experiment.

Enjoy the share this week everyone!

Owner Harrison Bardwell

REMINDER | CSA TOTE BAGS
Please remember to bring your bags back folks. We will be repeating the same sanitization process each week.

WHAT TO USE FIRST

GREENS TIP: Fill a large bowl or a clean sink with plenty of cool water. Add the lettuce or greens and swish them around to loosen and remove any dirt. Dirt and debris will sink to the bottom while the greens will magically float above all that mess.
  1. Strawberries - counter top 1 day, refrigerator 4 to 7 days
  2. Salad Mix - 5 to 7 days in the refrigerator crisper drawer
  3. Lettuce - 5 to 7 days in the refrigerator crisper drawer
  4. Kale - 5 to 7 days in the refrigerator crisper drawer, longer in water
  5. Garlic Scapes - 2 to 3 weeks in a plastic bag, refrigerator crisper drawer
  6. Hakurei Turnips - 7 to 10 days unwashed in plastic bag, refrigerator crisper drawer
  7. Green Cabbage - unwashed, 3 weeks to 2 months, cool dark place
