Baby Swiss Chard are the small delicate leaves that resemble baby spinach, a member of the same family. The petite young stems lack the developed bitterness and earthiness that makes chard varieties unfavorable to many palates. The mildly sweet flavor is spinach-like and slightly earthy nutty taste.

Chard is a nutritional powerhouse vegetable packed with vitamins, nutrients and health benefits. Baby Swiss Chard contains high levels of vitamins C, K, E, beta-carotene, calcium and the minerals manganese and zinc.

There are four basic types of Spinach :)

Flat-leaf: This type of spinach has smooth, spade-shaped leaves that have a lightly sweet flavor. They are the easiest kind to clean and prepare. While they are most commonly eaten in salads, try using them in a nutrient packed Spinach Smoothie for an on-the-go snack!

Savoy: Savoy spinach is characterized by its deep green, thick, and crinkled leaves. They have a more bitter taste and crisp texture, making them ideal for cooking. Use them while making a Mushroom and Spinach Tart.

Semi-Savoy: Like savoy, semi-savoy has partially straight leaves and less crinkle They are crisp and tender, which makes them great for cooking too! This type of spinach would be perfect in a Spinach Pesto Pasta because of their thick, but smooth leaf.

Red-leaf: This spinach gets its name from the maroon veins that run through the dark green leaves. Its earthier flavor is perfect addition to a hearty soup.

    Picture
    • First use... people first grew carrots as medicine, not food, for a variety of ailments
    • They're how old... Carrots can be traced back about 5,000 years through historical documents and paintings. No one knows exactly when the first carrots appeared, because many people mistook them for parsnips, a close relative of the carrot
    • Nutrition facts... A medium-size carrot has 25 calories, 6 grams of carbs, and 2 grams of fiber. The veggie is an excellent source of vitamin A, providing more than 200% of your daily requirement in just one carrot. Carrots are loaded with beta-carotene, a natural chemical that the body changes into vitamin A. The deeper orange the carrot, the more beta-carotene you’re getting
    • Carrot colors... we think of carrots as orange, but they can also be white, yellow, red, and purple
    • Haters... Mel Blanc, the voice of cartoon character Bugs Bunny, reportedly did not like carrots

    • Pasture Raised Hamburgers - When grilling keep them pink inside. We love our burgers nice and moist, but overcooking grass-fed burger will tend to toughen it up. Our beef is not lean, but it still benefits from gentle grilling.
    • Toast & Jam - Woodstar Cafe's Honey Oat Bread makes wonderful toast, it's slightly sweet, and if paired with Grade A butter and Mother's Strawberry Jam so amazingly good!
