    WEATHER ALERTS
    UPDATE Sunday - June 28, 2020
It's looking like we have a pretty good chance for rain and thunderstorms most of the week. If it is raining, the check-in and CSA tables will be on the backside of the tent facing the sidewalk. Be sure to have your umbrella on hand in case there there a few other folks in queue.
    Picture
A farmer's reward at the end of a long hard day

    FIELD NOTES
It finally rained and we got a good soaking one too! The crops are happy and we're beyond relieved. With several more chances over the next few days this should carry us through for a bit and push along our much anticipated sweet corn.

Speaking of rain and thunderstorms, our new 20x30' tent fared pretty darn good even in the heavy wind gusts. It's great to have some shelter for our products where we didn't have it before!

We're excited to have broccoli for the very first time ever and you, our CSA members will be the first to give it a try! Also new to the share is Arrowhead Cabbage, Daikon Radish, Pantheon Squash, Zephyr Squash, and Sweet Crisp Salad Mix. We can't wait to share it with you and hope you enjoy it :)

Cultivating the sweet corn... we need some rain to move it along!

    FIELD NOTES
It's only June 22nd and it already feels like the long hot summer. We are in a drought condition right now and our next best chance of any kind of soaking rain will be this Wednesday. Let's hope it happens because the fields are looking pretty dire. Normally we have sweet corn for the 4th of July but because of the lack of rain and the heat it will be delayed as well as many other crops.

On a happy note, we have a wonderful share for you this week. We're excited to have new offerings of mixed beets, baby scallions, and summer squash.

As I am writing this our new tent is being erected in place of the farmstand. We finally received the part we were missing and if all goes well we may have a new CSA setup soon!

Looking forward to seeing you all :)

Getting seeds in the ground before the much needed rains came!
    FIELD NOTES
Did we say we are thankful for the storms last week? The rain came at a crucial time. We talk about reward vs the risk all of the time with the CSA and this was one of those times the "risk" was winning. Because of the extended heat and no precipitation we lost several settings of plants. So dry... desert-like conditions. The wind would literally carry the soil away. After hours, into the night, and many-many passes later, we irrigated the fields to just keep the green alive. We won some and lost some. Please know we try our hardest to produce for you each and every week, no matter what it takes. To us, failure is not an option.

We are hoping to have the new tent setup this week. We have been waiting for special ground anchors to secure the frame and at the time I am writing this they have arrived. Not only will it service all of the CSA members but all of our farm stand customers as well. We are super excited to begin the next chapter of Bardwell Farm!

Summer squash, cucumbers, and bell peppers are beginning to form, but again we need rain to push things along. Send a prayer or do a little rain dance folks, we're going to need it.

We are in the process of flipping beds in High Tunnel 1 to plant English cucumbers. With some luck we'll see them in 40 to 50 days. It's something new we are trying, should be a fun little experiment.

Enjoy the share this week everyone!

    Owner Harrison Bardwell

High Tunnel 1 in all of it's panoramic glory!

    FIELD NOTES
We added some new folks to the Tuesday CSA, welcome all! Be sure to read everything through if this is your first week, there is a lot of info here.

We finally had a little rainfall last Saturday and it helped a bit but we need much more. We've actually had to irrigate the crops by tractor after hours most nights to keep the green alive. It's been hot and the soil is so dry it's like dust in the wind. Many thanks to my farming partners for lending us a hand. Farmers help farmers, that's what we do!

High Tunnel 2 is looking amazing right now after we trellised and clipped the heirloom tomatoes. It's looking like we'll have the earliest fruit of the season. Cucumbers and celery also went in the ground this past week too, so many new varieties and we can't wait to share them all with you.

So, how is your CSA going so far? We want to hear from you! Message us at bardwellfarm@gmail.com and drop us a note. Send us your questions too :)

    Enjoy the bounty this week!
